At Schooner, each age group’s program combines play based learning and structured group activity to give your child the best of both worlds.

Science shows that children learn best through play. Schooner’s hand created curriculum gives your child new tools and concepts to use during playtime. When the two are integrated, your child can truly excel!

A learning journey at every age

Infants

Our infants love the cognitive development activities our teachers lead: stories, sign language and songs throughout the day!

Birth - 15 months

  • Schooner teachers work with each family to ensure that home schedules and school schedules match - naps, feedings and playtime will all remain consistent, no matter where your baby spends time.

  • Daily schedules include dedicated time for practicing gross motor development, tummy time, rolling over, and fine motor development holding and grasping items.

  • Teaching children to love new things is a big part of care! Infants will spend time creating art, learning Spanish, and playing instruments in music classes. Infants will also be exposed to the world around them through nature walks and outdoor activities once they’ve reached six months of age.

Toddlers

15 - 27 months

  • Toddlers are learning to express themselves and share their thoughts and emotions. Our staff spends a great deal of time talking to them, explaining the world, and helping them voice their feelings in a healthy way.

  • Toddlers begin participating in Schooner’s hand created curriculum, beginning to build the foundational elements of learning. Children are introduced to letters, sounds, numbers, colors and shapes.

  • Toddlers quickly develop their ability to interact and impact the world around them. Every day the children enjoy story time, puppet shows, sing songs, play musical instruments, go on adventures outdoors, and more!

At this stage, children begin recognizing and understanding the world, its patterns, and how they fit into it!

Twos

27 months - 39 months

Children begin to learn and regulate their emotions, connect dots between concepts, and build on the foundations set during the toddler phase.

  • Through play based and structured lessons, children continue to learn about letters, shapes, colors and countries of the world. Teachers help integrate these things into playtime for better retention and learning.

  • At two, children start to learn, recognize and name all the big feelings they’re having! It’s our goal to teach them how to understand these feelings and share healthy coping skills during those times when things get tough.

  • When children begin showing readiness, our staff will partner with each family to potty train students. Twos classrooms are equipped with their own kid friendly bathrooms to facilitate the process and teach kids independence.

Pre-K

3 years to 5 years

Building foundations to help your students succeed in K-12 environments.

  • The goal of our pre-k environment is to prepare children for success in a K-12 environment. Students will begin tracing & writing, phonics, sight words and more.

Our program was redesigned in 2025 to integrate the newest science surrounding how kids learn to read! We’re excited to share the updates with you during your tour.

  • Students participate in science experiments, learn math concepts through integration in play, go on nature walks outdoors, and understand fundamental engineering and physics through movement based learning.

  • Pre-K students will learn how to work in teams to achieve a goal, solve problems with others, and resolve conflict in healthy and communicative ways.
